Every year the Treme’s iconic Backstreet Cultural Museum collaborates with the Mandingo Warriors “Spirit of Fi Yi Yi” Mardi Gras Indian Tribe to put on a Back to School Picnic to collect school supplies for neighborhood children.

This year’s picnic will take place this Saturday, September 5th from noon to 6 p.m. at Hunter’s Field (St. Bernard and N. Derbigny).

The day will include games, refreshments, guest speakers, and more.

Every year, the picnic provides school supplies for over 250 local children. All monetary and supply donations are greatly appreciated.

Checks can be made out to Backstreet Cultural Museum (1116 Henriette Delille St., New Orleans, LA 70116) and supplies can be dropped at the same address during business hours (Tues – Fri 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sat 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.)
