The new B.B. King’s Blues Club in New Orleans will hold its grand opening celebration on Wednesday, March 9. The event will feature live music, food and a ribbon cutting ceremony. The club,
B.B. King’s Blues Club New Orleans, which is located on Decatur Street in the heart of the French Quarter, marks the fifth location for a franchise that already has venues in Memphis, Nashville, Orlando and Montgomery. The club officially opened on New Year’s Eve, and has taken over the space that was formerly occupied by Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville.
The club will feature live music seven days a week, with the B.B. King All-Star Band (the club’s house band) performing four nights per week and local musicians performing three or four nights per week. There will also be music at 11am on Sundays when the venue hosts its Jazz/Blues brunch.
Tony Coleman, B.B. King’s drummer for over 30 years, will be the club’s music director.
“The opportunity to put music together for a location in New Orleans is a dream come true,” says Coleman. “While touring, we were only able to be here for a night or two so I am looking forward to being involved in the city’s music scene for a long time.”
Additionally, B.B. King’s Blues Club has partnered with the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, and will showcase students from the acclaimed high school regularly.
B.B. King’s Blues Club takes its name from legendary guitarist B.B. King, who passed away last year at the age of 89. His musical legacy will be honored at this year’s Jazz Fest, and his likeness appears on the official 2016 poster for Jazz Fest’s Congo Square stage.
