From 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014, Art Gumbo, a group exhibit featuring 21 Louisiana artists’ handicraft, opens in the Exchange Center’s first-floor lobby and gallery. Presented by the Arts Council of New Orleans, the event celebrates the culmination of the organization’s 2013 Artists as Entrepreneur class, a yearly program that better prepares fledgling artists to turn their artwork into their livelihood. The Exchange Center is located at 934 Gravier Street in the CBD (map). Art Gumbo will run through Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
In keeping with the Arts Council’s efforts to capture a diverse mixture of the city’s art scene, Art Gumbo will feature work from the drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, furniture making, and mixed media and assemblage mediums. The event will showcase the following artists’ work: Adam Hall, Abby Cantrell, Alex Geriner, Alice Atkinson, Amy Lutz, Andrew L. Hopkins, Anthony Jones, Ashton Despot, Claire Bangser, Curt Fleck, Jamie Chiarello, Keith Eccles, Lane Lefort, Laurel Buras, Mar Rodriguez, Martin Welch, Michael Guidry, Nealy Oriliion, Pam Marquis, & Shaun Aleman.
In addition to the exhibit, the Friday evening opening is free to attend. The Arts Council encourages prospective fans and art enthusiasts to come out to meet the artists, take in the breadth of their work and support the 2013 Artists as Entrepreneurs class.
