Art lovers rejoice! The annual Art for Arts’ Sake street party will take place Saturday, October 7, to highlight the start of the New Orleans art season. Partygoers will take to the streets to shop and partake of contemporary art in three locations around the city: The Contemporary Arts Center, the Warehouse Arts District and Magazine Street.
Multiple art galleries, antique and jewelry stores, gift shops and restaurants will open their doors to more 30,000 art lovers. The Contemporary Arts Center (900 Camp Street) will host the evening’s open reception and party from 6p.m. – midnight. Admission is free for CAC members and ony $10 for general admission. The evening’s attire is casual to chic and comfortable shoes are advised. Earlier that afternoon, from 4-6p.m., will be the chance to experience Pippin Frisbie-Calder’s Canceled Edition, a site-specific installation featuring 1,028 hand-carved, woodcut, hand-painted prints of Ivory Billed Woodpeckers. Viewers are encouraged to participate in the installation by removing a bird from the wall and taking it home.
Galleries participating on Magazine Street include Aikido, Antieau, Carol Robinson, Esom, and more. Those interested in checking out the Warehouse Arts District should focus on Julia Street, where many of the galleries will feature cash bars.
