The Threadhead Cultural Foundation is once again planning to give out grants for “artistic projects whose work is in the tradition of preserving, promoting and disseminating the cultural heritage of New Orleans and the surrounding area of Louisiana.” However, the deadline is fast approaching for the latest round, as all grant application must be submitted by midnight on Friday, October 21.
Applicants must have connections to the state of Louisiana and will be selected based on a variety of criteria such as the project’s adherence to the Foundation’s mission, the project’s merit, its cultural impact and feasibility.
Last year the foundation awarded grants to 12 projects, with projects from Alexandra Scott, Dave Jordan and Luke Allen all receiving funding. Additional grants were to Dancing Grounds’ “Raising Student Voices” summit, Paavo Haninen’s film “Big Chief” and the Danny Barker Festival, among others.
The maximum amount is $5,000 for an artistic project grant request and $2,500 for a Buddy Mann event grant. The funds can be applied to any fees paid to artists, nonperforming artists and professionals including: composers, technical personnel, equipment rental and facilities rental.
