Louisiana’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant community of storytellers are set to receive a boost as the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) announces the opening of applications for its Rebirth Grants program. Made possible by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the State of Louisiana, Rebirth Grants aim to support projects and programs that provide access to the humanities for residents across the state.
The 2024 LEH Rebirth Grants application window is now open and will run until May 1. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $5,000, with all applicants required to demonstrate matching cost share in cash or in kind. Eligible projects span a wide range of humanities-based initiatives, including public programs, documentary photography, festivals, digital projects, speaker series, publication assistance, and educational initiatives.
Successful applicants will be notified of their awards by June 5, with projects slated to take place between September 1 and October 31, 2025. To assist prospective applicants, a virtual Q&A session on applying for the 2024 Rebirth Grants will be held on April 11 at 2:00 p.m. Interested individuals can register for the session here.
Organizations eligible to apply include nonprofits with 501(c)(3) status, public-facing entities within accredited institutions of higher learning, state and local government agencies, and state or federally recognized Native American tribal governments in Louisiana. The LEH particularly encourages organizations reaching underserved populations to submit proposals.
The Rebirth Grants program underscores the LEH’s commitment to fostering cultural engagement and preserving Louisiana’s diverse heritage. By supporting humanities-based projects, the LEH aims to enrich communities and facilitate meaningful conversations that celebrate the state’s unique history and identity.
