New Orleans’ comedy scene is getting an awkward workout: last week, the Sh*tty Kisses comedy tour rolled through town, and it’s followed up by Angry Cuddles. Seattle’s Derek Sheen will perform Monday and Tuesday (September 23-24) with support from Bryan Cook and Heather Thomson. These comics may not be household names, but as their press release points out, Cook, Thomson and Sheen “don’t know who you are, either.”
Sheen released an album, Holy Drivel on Rooftop Records last Fall. He describes himself as a “weird happy little comedy hobbit,” and has toured with Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, and Rory Scovel. Cook is a staff writer for E!’s Fashion Police, who, according to the tour’s press release “doesn’t have a lot else on his plate.” Heather Thomson’s personal, self-deprecating brand of comedy boasts a disarming honesty.
On Monday (September 23), the Angry Cuddles Tour will be featured at Siberia’s “Ice Cold Comedy Night.” Siberia is located at 2227 Saint Claude Ave. The show begins at 9 p.m. and often lasts into the wee hours. Entry is free. On Tuesday (September 24), the Angry Cuddles Tour will appear at “Comedy Beast,” at 8:30 p.m. in the Howlin’ Wolf Den, located at 907 S. Peters St, at the corner of Saint Joseph St. This show is also free, but tips are customary. The weekly stand-up showcase is a production of The New Movement Theater group and hosted by local favorites Andrew Polk and Cyrus Cooper.
