Tulane University’s School of Liberal Arts has announced that Anders Osborne, the well-known singer-songwriter and guitarist, will join the Creative Industries program as a visiting instructor for the summer semester. The program provides students with a practical understanding of the various pathways into creative economy careers, with a particular emphasis on the music industry.
Osborne, who has been in the music business for over three decades, will share his insights and perspectives on navigating the industry’s challenges and successes. Osborne will also highlight best practices for students looking to transition into a career in music business. New Orleans music industry veteran Bill Taylor will join him. He has been involved in the city’s creative communities for decades, co-founding and directing The Trombone Shorty Foundation and producing the Fats Domino tribute recording “Goin’ Home.”
The three-credit class, which will take place from May 15 to May 26, will cover the music business’s history, leadership skills development and a working understanding of the various professional pathways available to those pursuing a music career. Special in-class guests from the industry will also be featured.
The Creative Industries program is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, whether enrolled at Tulane University or not, and courses are offered online or hybrid. Registration for the program opens on Monday, April 10.
