The French Quarter has a new addition to its vibrant art scene with the opening of “All Amzie All The Time,” a pop-up art gallery featuring the works of Amzie Adams at 536 Royal Street. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m. through the month of August. An internationally acclaimed painter, musician, poet and performance artist, Amzie Adams has been a beloved fixture in New Orleans since the 1960s. Known for his distinctive top hat, white beard, and custom-made clothing, Adams has made an indelible mark on the city’s cultural landscape.
There will be several special events during the month. On August 10 there will be a special Dirty Linen Night gathering from 6 pm to 9 pm. On August 17, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Amzie is hosting a commemorative poster signing and on August 24 there will be an evening of music, art and special surprises for Amzie’s 80th Birthday Soiree starting at 7 p.m.
The “All Amzie All The Time” exhibition will celebrate six decades of Adams’ eclectic artistry, offering a retrospective look at his contributions to New Orleans culture. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore a diverse collection of his paintings, each piece reflecting his unique perspective and deep connection to the city. The gallery promises an immersive experience, capturing the essence of New Orleans through Adams’ creative lens.
Amzie Adams’ influence extends beyond visual art; he has been featured in the PBS documentary project The American Experience, interviewed for the New Orleans Historic Collection, and highlighted in numerous articles celebrating the city’s rich artistic heritage. His works are cherished in private collections around the world, making this pop-up gallery a rare chance for locals and visitors alike to engage with his artistry.
