Auditions for the 14th season of American Idol will be held at UNO’s Lakefront Arena on Wednesday, June 25 from approximately 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Superstar hopefuls between the ages of 15-28 years old are invited to audition online or in person during the New Orleans auditions.
Hopefuls are encouraged to arrive early, as space is limited and a large turnout is expected.
According to American Idol, “There is no guarantee that everyone who registers will be given the opportunity to audition. If time is running short, Producer may select people to audition (regardless of how early they arrived) based on performing ability, look, style, personality and other factors, at Producer’s sole discretion.”
New Orleans contestants have enjoyed a good bit of success during American Idol’s 13 seasons.
Jovany Barreto from Harvey enjoyed his run on the show in 2011, which ended when he was voted off as a top 16 finalist.
In the fifth season, which aired in 2005, 20 year old David Brown of New Orleans advanced as far as the top 20, but was voted off after his performance of Stevie Wonder’s “All in Love Is Fair.”
Fellow New Orleanian Burnell Taylor, who attended Sarah T. Reed High School in New Orleans East, was able to make it to the final round, earning the 7th position overall during the 12th season. His performances included “Let it Be” by The Beatles and “Some Kind of Wonderful” by Soul Brothers Six.
