Amanda Shaw offers fiddle lessons via Zoom

Cajun fiddler Amanda Shaw will lead a virtual fiddling workshop via Zoom on Friday, June 10, from 6 to 7 p.m.

On an Instagram post Shaw wrote, “Over the years, I’ve been asked if I could teach this person or that person more times than I can count. I’ve always declined the offer, probably because I’ve never really felt like any sort of authority on how to play music. Music is one of those things where you are always looking to grow and learn more and no project you work on ever feels ‘complete.’

“The amazing thing about music is how we can inspire one another through our ideas and create a shared experience through these twelve little notes. I hope that through my master class I can share some techniques and ideas I use to create and inspire YOU to get creative as well.”

Shaw, 20, studied classical violin at age 4 and by age 8 had begun playing Cajun music. At age 18 she was touring as a professional musican and became a regular on the festival circuit in Louisiana. She has received dozens of honors, including the Big Easy Award for Best Female Entertainer, Louisiana Music Hall of Fame Future Famer, and Offbeat Magazine’s Best of the Beat Singer/Songwriter of the Year. She has also collaborated with Grammy award-winning musicians, including Chubby Carrier, and renowned songwriters, including Matthew Gerrard.

Enrollment in the Zoom workshop is $20. All ages are welcome and no experience is needed. To register, visit here. To follow Amanda Shaw on Instagram, go here.
