Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Returns to New Orleans for Two Special Performances

The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) proudly presents the return of the iconic Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (AAADT) for two electrifying performances at the Mahalia Jackson Theater on March 21 and 22. Last seen in New Orleans in 2019, AAADT celebrates 66 years of bringing African-American cultural expression and dance traditions to audiences worldwide.

Founded in 1958 by the legendary Alvin Ailey, the company has performed in more than 70 countries and was recognized as a “Cultural Ambassador to the World” by the U.S. Congress. Featuring a company of over 30 powerhouse dancers, AAADT’s performances promise to captivate audiences with dynamic new works and timeless classics, including Ronald K. Brown’s Grace and Ailey’s iconic Revelations.

Two Unique Programs

Each evening will showcase a different program:

Program A (March 21) features the world premieres of Sacred Songs by Matthew Rushing and Finding Free by Hope Boykin, culminating in Ailey’s masterpiece Revelations, a stirring exploration of grief, joy, and resilience set to African-American spirituals.

Program B (March 22) includes CENTURY by Amy Hall Garner, Many Angels by Lar Lubovitch, and the 25th-anniversary restaging of Brown’s Grace, an exhilarating fusion of modern and West African dance traditions.

Single tickets start at $35, with discounts available for students, seniors, and groups of 10 or more.
