Back in 2014, the late Allen Toussaint performed alongside the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at SFJAZZ in San Francisco. On July 3, the concert will be broadcast with never-before-seen footage during a one-time-only opportunity for new viewers.
“The concert we played at SFJAZZ with Mr. Allen Toussaint was a special moment for us and in many ways was historic,” recalls Creative Director of Preservation Hall, Ben Jaffe. “We’d spent the better part of two months on a nationwide tour playing concert halls in major cities across America. We never knew how important this show would become as it was one of Mr. Toussaint’s last performances. I’m so happy that it was captured and excited that we now get to share it with others.”
In 2018, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the SFJAZZ Gala. The broadcast of the band’s 2014 performance with Toussaint is part of SFJAZZ’s new weekly online membership program, “FRIDAYS AT FIVE.” It includes a virtual tip jar, the proceeds of which are split halfway between SFJAZZ and the Preservation Hall Foundation.
This historic concert broadcast takes place Friday, July 3 at 7 p.m. CDT and can be viewed here.
