Benefit concert March 23 for renowned jazz saxophonist, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson
It seems Louisiana jazz has broken yet another heart… the heart of one of its most beloved musicians. Well, perhaps it wasn’t the jazz that did it this time, but it would be all too soon if we lost the sultry, coaxing brass sound of Brooklyn-born and NOLA-adopted Wess Anderson’s sax to heart complications this season.
Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson is a renowned jazz saxophonist who grew up in the shadows of Brooklyn, NY. He quickly obtained a passion for jazz music and started performing at local clubs at just fourteen years old. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge where he studied under Alvin Batiste, renowned clarinetist. Louisiana’s love for jazz music stole his heart, and he hasn’t left since. He developed his own sound: a mix of traditional New Orleans jazz combining it with a blues style. He has been performing throughout Louisiana for years.
Anderson suffered a stroke late last year, has recently suffered more complications, and is currently still in recovery. There will be a benefit concert at the Howlin’ Wolf on March 23. It will feature Grammy winner Allen Toussaint, the “Soul Queen of New Orleans”, Irma Thomas, bassist Roland Guerin, clarinetist Dr. Michael White, keyboardist David Torkanowsky, and many other surprise performances. All donations will be used to assist Wess and his family during his time in rehabilitation. All donations are 100% tax deductable.
