Alexis & the Sanity, the pop duo formerly known as Alexis & the Samurai, is set to begin a Monday residency at Chickie Wah Wah, the newly refurbished listening room in Mid-City, starting on March 20th from 7-9 p.m. The new name and residency are part of a fresh start for the band and the venue.
Chickie Wah Wah, which lost its founding owner Dale Triguero in 2022, is now owned by a collective of music promoters with ties to Tipitina’s and the Civic Theater. According to venue management, they are working to enhance the space without losing the character and substance that made it special.
For Alexis & the Sanity, the new name represents a desire to make grittier, more electronic music while maintaining the emotion and intimacy that has been their niche for the past decade. The duo’s sound is featured on various television shows, including Kardashian-based reality programs and NCIS: New Orleans.
The duo, which previously had a residency at Chickie Wah Wah in the 2010s, is excited about returning to their old stomping grounds. “Chickie Wah Wah allowed us to try out new material every week and stretch our musical legs,” said Alexis Marceaux. “We can’t wait to feel that way again with the rebirth of this residency.”
The first single as Alexis & the Sanity, “Hind Legs,” is set to be released on April 3rd. For more information, please visit the band’s website, and Chickie Wah Wah’s calendar for other details.
