Acclaimed pianist and singer-songwriter A.J. Croce will return to the Old US Mint this Thursday, November 20.
He played there this past July, a show which was especially memorable for the closing number, where Allen Toussaint came onstage for a fantastic duet where the two artists shared the same piano.
Toussaint is one of the producers and collaborators on Croce’s latest album, Twelve Tales, which reached the Top 10 on the roots-rock charts and the Top 20 on the radio rock charts.
Croce will be in town earlier in the week to audition players for the New Orleans-based band he’s putting together. Although Thursday’s performance will be a solo act, it’s very possible that he’ll invite the new band onstage for a few numbers.
This isn’t the first time the Pennsylvania-born musician has immersed himself in the New Orleans sound.
As a guest deejay with Transcendental Radio of The David Lynch Foundation, he hosted a radio program centered on artists from the city that inspired him and informed his work including, to name but a few, Dr. John, Lee Dorsey, Irma Thomas, Professor Longhair, the Wild Tchoupitoulas, and Allen Toussaint.
Thursday’s show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased in advance at musicatthemint.org/a-j-croce-2/.
Croce will also be playing the Red Dragon in Baton Rouge at 9 p.m. the following night, Friday, November 21.
