On Saturday, April 16, the Ace Hotel will celebrate Record Store day with the release of a three-in-one compact cassette, Music For Intention & Growth: A Purpose-Driven Sound Series. The release is part of the hotel’s partnerships with Moog Music (the audio engineers behind MoogFest in Durham, North Carolina) and Twin Springs Tapes, a label that exclusively produces cassette tapes.
“Music for Intention and Growth” is a digital-analog hybrid. It channels audio composed on Moog’s electronic equipment–specifically the Moog Mother 32 Analog Synthesizer–through the warm medium of cassette tapes. Featured on the tapes will be soundscapes conducted by electronic artists Inner Travels, Kyle Landstra and TALsounds.
“We have been longtime fans of these three artists,” said Matthew Barlow, founder of Twin Springs Tapes. “We hope that the sounds carry many positive vibrations with each listening experience.”
Starting at 6pm local time on Saturday, April 16, the newly-opened Ace Hotel New Orleans—along with its sister establishments across the country–will play the work off vintage cassette decks in the lobbies, creating walk-in listening environments. Fans are invited to come over, listen and pick up a free cassette while supplies last. According to Moog’s website, a limited number of cassettes will include an audio transmission alerting listeners that they’ve won tickets for MoogFest 2016 [May 19-22]. Some of these winning tapes may be randomly mixed into the tapes distributed to The Ace Hotel.
Record Store Day will bring vinyl lovers the world over out to their local music shops, where they will be able to pick up a number of exclusive LPs, EPs and singles for one day only. We’ve compiled a list of the Record Store Day releases with Louisiana connections, including offerings from Allen Toussaint, Buddy Guy and Lucinda Williams.
