Ace Hotel New Orleans Brings Back Artist in Residence Program

The Ace Hotel, that hosted a slew of artists such as Yaya Bey earlier this year for their Jazz Fest after parties at the Three Keys, has announced the revival of its Artist in Residence (AIR) program, signaling the return of a decade-long tradition of hosting over 350 artists. With the program’s relaunch, the hotel aims to provide emerging artists with a platform to foster creativity and exhibit their works on a quarterly basis.

Launched in 2014, the AIR program invites artists from across the globe to reside in one of Ace’s hotel rooms for a month, where they can freely create and explore their craft. Their resulting work is then exhibited at Ace and shared with the public. Since its inception, the program has hosted an impressive array of talented artists, including Antonia Kuo, Rashaad Newsome, Alexander Chee, and more.

The Ace Hotel New Orleans AIR 2023/2024 will launch alongside eight other Ace properties globally. Kicking off the program will be François Boudreaux, an exceptional artist whose exhibit opening will take place onsite at the hotel on August 5 from 6-9 p.m. Other notable artists coming to the New Orleans location throughout the coming year are Sultana Isham, Chef Jasmine Robinson, and Donaka Autry.

When we asked Boudreaux about why he chose to participate in the Ace’s AIR program he told us, “After doing research I discovered Ace’s acceptance of individuality offers a very welcoming atmosphere, which is inline with the vision of my work and brand. This type of compelling approach to artistry encourages different organizations to find a common ground for expression and experiences. I believe this is what shapes special and specific projects.”

The selection of artists for AIR 2023/2024 was made in collaboration with the Material Institute, a non-profit arts center in the 9th Ward. Material Institute has been an instrumental partner, providing invaluable resources to a new generation of artists across diverse creative domains such as music, fashion, and community gardening.
