On Saturday, August 10, at 3 p.m., the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) and The Helis Foundation John Scott Center will host a special screening of A Man and His Trumpet: The Leroy Jones Story as part of their ongoing Bright Lights Revealed series. This event will take place at The Helis Foundation John Scott Center, located at 938 Lafayette Street.
The documentary, directed by Cameron Washington, was honored as the 2019 Humanities Documentary Film of the Year. It chronicles the compelling journey of New Orleans trumpeter Leroy Jones, from his early days in the projects of New Orleans to his pivotal role in the brass band revival. The film also explores how Jones caught the attention of Harry Connick Jr. and rose to international fame.
The event, which will last three hours, includes a screening of the 85-minute documentary followed by a discussion and Q&A session with director Cameron Washington. The discussion will be moderated by producer Lauren Domino. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the making of the film and the life of Leroy Jones during the Q&A segment.
In addition to the screening, guests are invited to explore the exhibition at The Helis Foundation John Scott Center either before or after the event. Admission to both the center and the screening is free and open to the public.
