5 Local Ideas for a Safe and Socially Distanced Halloween

As with everything else, New Orleans is going to have to Halloween a little differently this year. The Krewe of Boo Parade is a no-go but there are still some fun and relatively inexpensive ways you can ring in the season.

Oktober-feasting

We assume you didn’t make it to Munich this year for Oktoberfest. (That’s ok since Munich canceled its own celebrations.) No worries. Deutschehaus New Orleans has a month full of activities. Dinner plates of German meatloaf or sausage are available for $14 as well as various beers and Bavarian pretzels. Their Kino film series is limited to 40 people per reservation and is screening Wir Sind Die Nacht, a saucy German vampire film both October 14 and 21. Visit detuscheshaus.org for their hours and to make reservations.

Boo at the Zoo

The family friendly Peek-a-Boo at the Zoo daytime Halloween experience for the whole family is taking reservations for October 17 & 18 and October 24 & 25. While previously held at night, guests are still welcome to dress in their costumes. The zoo will be decorated accordingly and kids and adults can enjoy a Mystery Maze and more. For information, visit here.

House of the Setting Sun?

Let’s be real – this year is all about photo-ops and you definitely will have opportunities galore at JAMNOLA’s “La Adorna’s House of Eclectic Souls” pop-up. With strict measures in place for social distancing and a reservation only policy, you’ll have the perfect setting for spooky seasonal photography. Bonus, you can book a party of 6 for $240.

Sink Your Teeth into Cinema

The Broad Theater just opened up its outdoor section but for those who are comfortable partaking in a socially distanced indoor cinema experience, the theater is still showing Brandon Cronenberg’s Possessor. Starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Sean Bean, the film has opened to critical acclaim. For information on showtimes and tickets, visit here.
