3D Na’Tee is a rapper, songwriter, director and entrepreneur whose prodigious gift on the microphone makes her one of the city’s most celebrated lyricists. Born Samantha Davon Jones, she has established a tremendous foundation for her career through independent hustle, taking on established music brands like Cash Money and No Limit. From her days battling rappers on Canal Street to her sprawling social-media following, Na’Tee continues to prove herself innovative and is now the subject of an ambitious new docu-series produced by WAV.
The live-streaming digital multimedia music discovery platform announced its first-ever docuseries, 3D Na’Tee: Uptown Butterfly, the trailer for which premieres today on OffBeat.com. The series is described as following Na’Tee “through her hometown where she gives an inside look at the true to form hustle of a freestyle female rapper in the modern era.” Since amassing close to a million views for her 2011 self-directed video for “Switch,” Na’Tee was approached with management offers from major record labels including Timbaland’s Mosley Music Group and Def Jam Records. However, she remained steadfastly self-determined and in 2012, she dropped The Coronation, arguably one of the best rap mixtapes to come out of the Crescent City this decade. In 2016, her self-released LP The Regime dropped, debuting at #15 on iTunes.
In 3D Na’Tee: Uptown Butterfly, WAV will uncover Na’Tee’s harrowing journey through the hip-hop industry – from her humble beginnings, to ghost-writing chart-topping hits, to her future plans to conquer the industry by staying one step ahead as a rapper, writer, director, and entrepreneur.
