3D Na’Tee is arguably New Orleans’ finest lyricist. The rapper has branded herself as “Already Legendary,” and for good reason. The rapper has earned acclaim not only for her recordings (including the Best of the Beat Award-nominated 2017 project Songs That Didn’t Make the Tape, Vol. 1) but also her freestyle capabilities, business acumen and work behind and in front of the camera. In November 2017, OffBeat.com premiered the trailer for 3D Na’Tee: Uptown Butterfly, a WAV docuseries starring the 3rd Ward native. She’s also an accomplished director whose latest work is in collaboration with another lyrical force in rap music: Page Kennedy.
Page is from Detroit and, much like 3D Na’Tee, has built for himself a multi-faceted career. He’s also an established actor, known for his role as U-Turn on Weeds and, more recently, his turn in the blockbuster film The Meg. Lately, he’s been focusing efforts in his music career and proving he can stand toe-to-toe with top-notch Motor City spitters like Royce 5’9 and Elzhi. In August 2018, he released Same Page, Different Story, featuring the 3D Na’Tee joint venture, “I Can’t Love You.” An introspective reflection of toxic love, the song features 3D not only as a guest artist but also as video director.
In speaking with Ambrosia For Heads, Page said “I try and pour my real life into my music. Its a form of therapy for me. So there is nothing different in this song, [which] is a look into a previous relationship. I felt like I couldn’t love my partner the way she loved me or the way she deserved to have been loved. So needless to say, it became pretty ‘toxic.’ Sometimes it takes something very traumatic to actually break away from something.”
Page also explained his longtime admiration for his New Orleanian co-star. “I called on the assistance of my favorite female rapper, 3D N’atee, to work with me on this concept. I think we painted this portrait amazingly. This is my favorite song on the Same Page, Different Story album.”
