“Jamie was a master crawfish boiler” said Dave Jordan, former band mate, best friend and co-producer of the 7th Annual Jamie Galloway Crawfish Boil and Block Party. The annual event takes place Sunday March 31 on Oak Street, Jamie’s old stomping grounds. “It’s real old school Oak Street, the vibe of Maple Leaf 15, 20 years ago.” Over 4000 pounds of crawfish, one hell of a lineup, and an all day celebration of a cherished musician, chef and friend. All proceeds benefit the New Orleans Musicians Clinic and Assistance Foundation; since 1998, they have provided healthcare for local musicians.
Two stages and hours of live music. Confirmed artists include: George Porter Jr., Papa Mali, Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes, Soul Brass Band, Soul Project, Dave Jordan and NIA, 101 Runners, and Billy Iusso and Restless Natives. “The only prerequisite to play is that you had to know Jamie. Every band playing knows him or worked with him,” says Jordan. Jamie worked in the industry 20 years. “He was a big teddy bear. Everyone loved him, that’s why it’s so easy to do this, people wanna celebrate his memory.”
Crawfish will be dropping every hour on the hour by Seither’s Seafood and Clesi’s Restaurant and Catering. “We will have the unofficial world’s largest crawfish table. I say unofficial as we’ve tried to have the Guinness Book of World Records come out but they didn’t want to start a new category, so we decided to claim it anyway” said Stacey Morigeau of the New Orleans Musicians Clinic.
There will be a Brass Pass raffle, silent auction, and a 50/50 as well. Buy your tickets in advance and score a rally towel, for the mess thats sure to ensue with all dat crawfish. For more details and to purchase tickets, click here.
