Living in the greatest food city in the world can be difficult. We’re blessed with endless delicious dinner options. New Orleanians like to get together for a good meal and stiff drink…and when the two come together for a good cause, it’s a no brainer.
Liberty’s Kitchen, a non profit that “uses food to create opportunities for local youth,”provides a dining experience like nothing else in the city. Once a month, New Orleans chefs will cook alongside Liberty’s Kitchen trainees for a three-course dinner. All proceeds benefit their youth development program.
The next Guest Chef Night will be Thursday, April 18 and featuring Cafe Sbisa.
Founded by Janet Gorence Davas in 2008, Liberty’s Kitchens first location was set up across the street from the Orleans prison with an intention to provide a place for people who had been neglected or incarcerated to have a meal, job, and support system. Now with two locations and a 90-percent employment rate for graduates, Liberty’s Kitchen continues their mission to help students be their personal best and help develop skills into future leaders and mentors.
Chief Impact Officer Harry Schnur says, “Guest Chef Night is a special opportunity for our participants, alumni, community stakeholders, and culinary partners to come together in support of youth success. Our trainees get the chance to work alongside accomplished local chefs and our supporters get to hear directly from our graduates as they navigate career milestones, educational achievements, and other exciting life moments. The best part is that it happens every month, so if you miss this one, you don’t have to wait very long for the next.”
Tickets are $50.00. BYOB!
