Beginning in 1989, the United States Postal Service began its Jazz Fest Postal Cachet, a highly collectible souvenir mailing envelope embossed with the Fest’s logo and a corresponding image of a musician or performer. This year, The Radiators will not only grace the cachet but also put on a free performance in celebration .
The unveiling ceremony begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26 at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart Street). The 2018 Postal Cachet will go on sale an hour prior, available at the ceremony location for $15 as well as at the U.S. Postal Service tent at Jazz Fest at the Fair Grounds. All five original members—Ed Volker, keyboards and vocal; Dave Malone, guitar and vocal; Camile Baudoin, guitar; Reggie Scanlan, bass; and Frank Bua, Jr., drums—will be there.
Those unable to attend tomorrow’s event will have the opportunity to catch The Rads’ 40th anniversary performance at Jazz Fest on Sunday, May 6 on the Gentilly Stage from 3:15-4:35 p.m.
