311 will return to New Orleans for a headlining show at Champion Square on Friday, August 4. The popular reggae rock group will be joined by New Politics and Passafire, who will each support with an opening set.
311 will be on the road in support of Mosaic, a forthcoming album that is set for release on undetermined date in 2017. The record will feature 17 tracks, including a new single called “Too Much to Handle” that was released over the weekend.
311 has made a number of stops in the Crescent City over the years, though their six “311 Day” events are undoubtedly the most notable. The marathon concerts historically take place on March 11 and often find the band diving into an assortment of deep cuts, rare songs and covers in addition to their biggest hits. Fans travel from all over the country to attend the shows, which often showcase off-kilter surprises (2002, for instance, brought an appearance by former New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial).
The most recent 311 Day party went down last year when the band headlined the Smoothie King Center for two back-to-back nights. We spoke with frontman Nick Hexum ahead of the shows, and he told us about his love for New Orleans and the 311 fanbase.
Tickets for the show will go on sale to the general public on Saturday, March 25.
