A one of a kind, politics-meets-pop culture gathering is coming to town the weekend of February 2-4. The Unrig the System Summit is bringing together citizens from all walks of life– activists, philanthropists, journalists, academics, entertainers– to cross partisan lines, with the goal of “working together on concrete solutions to unrig America’s political system. The summit will feature speakers as varied as members of Congress, conservative news hosts, progressive social justice advocates, and even actress Jennifer Lawrence.
The first night of the summit will kick off with a night out on the town, featuring performances from local bands Meschiya Lake and the Little Big Horns and Brass-A-Holics. On Saturday night, a score of comedians, musicians, and panelists will convene at Tulane University. Summit attendees will enjoy live music from Americana ensemble HoneyHoney and local legends Preservation All-Stars. MC’d by Jennifer Lawrence and film director Adam Mckay, Saturday night’s lineup will also showcase comedians Nikki Glaser and Adam Yenser, and short speeches from Professor Richard Painter, astronaut Ron Garan, and nonprofit director Josh Silver.
The rest of the summit will feature advocacy workshops, a campaign design lab, and informational sessions on Citizens United, partisan corruption, and the power of storytelling. Those interested in attending the summit can register on the event website. Ticket prices vary between students, individuals, and group participants.
