Returning for its second year, the Joy Theater’s Last Waltz New Orleans takes place Friday, November 24 and includes a very special musical element.
This year’s production will include a live recreation of Martin Scorcese’s critically acclaimed concert film The Last Waltz performed by Papa Mali, Reggie Scanlan (of The Radiators), Galactic’s Robert Mercurio, Honey Island Swamp Band, The New Orleans Suspects, John “Papa” Gros Band, Terrence Higgins, Aaron Wilkinson, Darcy Malone, Ron Johnson, CR Gruver, Jack Eckert, John Mooney, Johnny Sansone, Johnny Sketch, Billy Iuso, Dave Jordan & Nia, and even more whose names have yet to be announced.
The 1978 film captured a 1976 performance by The Band, a rock group who was joined on stage that evening by Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Neil Young, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, and many more.
