The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center will host a celebration on Friday, November 7, to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Louisiana World Exhibition, or “World’s Fair.”
The evening will kick off with the unveiling of a commemorative bronze plaque, the historic event’s first permanent memorial, at 5 p.m. at the Convention Center Plaza.
The Plaza is located at the corner of Julia St. and Convention Center Blvd., at the heart of the former fair site.
This will be followed by a second line parade to the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, where there will be a reunion of former employees, contractors, concessionaires, performers, and others involved in the 1984 World’s Fair.
The reunion will feature complimentary food and cash bars, as well as music by the Riverwalk Jazz Band.
This is sure to be an amazing evening, a fitting tribute to the monumental event that amplified the city’s tourism and convention industries and spurred the revitalization of a huge swath of the Warehouse District and riverfront.
