Preservation Resource Center will be hosting the 10th Annual Ladies in Red gala which honors local jazz musicians for their contributions to the New Orleans jazz legacy. The patron party is tonight from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Generations Hall preceding the gala which will follow from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. The honorees for this year include: Gregory Davis, Lars Edegran, George French, Albinas Prizgintas, Dr. Michael White and Clive Wilson.
Ladies in Red is a fundraiser for the PRC’s African American Heritage Preservation (AAHP) program. The AAHP strives to identify and preserve the homes and cultural legacies of local jazz musicians. This year the AAHP has created its newest Heritage Education program, My City, My Home, which is a semester-long curriculum for elementary and middle school students. The program focuses on preserving and restoring the historical blueprint of New Orleans—the neighborhoods, architecture and music that make the city unique.
“The Preservation Resource Center is excited to bring this event to honor our jazz musicians, and raise funds for our Heritage Education program,” says committee member Suzanne Blaum. “It’s not a typical fundraiser; there will be a lot of great jazz musicians in attendance (honored past and present), fantastic food and an open bar!”
The patron party will host music by Some Like It Hot, and the gala will host music by the Batiste Brothers Band with Topsy Chapman and Solid Harmony. Food will be provided from local favorites such as Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse, The Praline Connection, Sweet Lorraine’s Jazz Club and more. For more information and to purchase tickets for the patron party and gala call 504.581.7032 or register at the Preservation Resource Center.
