NOLA Horror Film Fest, the horror film festival created by horror filmmakers for horror fans, now in its tenth year, announces it will be an all virtual online experience. This weekend, horror fans will have the opportunity to stream this year’s official selection of 54 films from all over the world.
Scrolling through the festival’s film guide (available here) feels like perusing your favorite 80s video rental shop, filled the appealing horror titles galore. (Who doesn’t recommend spying “Pumpkinhead” or “Ghoulies” in the aisles?) Titles include “The Rougarou,” a horror short about the monstrous local legend directed by Lorraine Caffery, and “Sister Tempest,” a Louisiana-filmed feature about a woman under alien inspection. The event closes with the closing night feature, “The Reckoning,” from “Game of Thrones” director Neil Marshall. The film tells the tale of a woman falsely accused of witchcraft in 1665 England which also happens to be the year of the Great Plague. Tormented by demons of both the human and spiritual form, the accused must carefully plot her revenge.
Fans of Troma and other genre horror films will be pleased with programming selections. Festival programmers state: It’s no small wonder – and no great surprise – that so many of today’s top directors got their start in “low budget horror”. With determination and imagination, these artists have created some truly memorable work that has encouraged and inspired a new generation of filmmakers. Our goal is the promotion of genre filmmaking in Louisiana, as well as nationally and internationally. The NOHFF is committed to celebrating the craft and advancing the art form of genre films.”
