Twenty years ago, Shad Weathersby gathered up an all-star lineup of some of New Orleans’s finest musicians, trekked over to Bogalusa’s Studio In The Country and laid down some tracks for an LP and cassette. Recently reissued for the first time on compact disc, Light Outside That Door is now available for a new generation of listeners. This all-star cast includes pianist/James Booker fanatic George Winston, Alvin “Red” Tyler, Clyde Kerr, Jr., and Edward “Kidd” Jordan among others. As lagniappe, the Zion Harmonizers lend their talented pipes to backing vocals for the title track. The result, not surprisingly, is a collection of musical gems.
All but one of the first 12 tracks are original Weathersby compositions and there are four bonus tracks from unreleased demos of his earlier trio, Huck’s River.
