Richard Lebouef and Two Step, Again, for the First Time (La Louisiane)

When the singer-accordionist is a LeBouef and his band consists of a Picard, an Hebert, a Fontenot, and a Sonnier, you know you’re talking real Cajun music. And because the band calls itself Two Step and not Waltz, you know they emphasize fast tempos. That they also emphasize the electric guitar as opposed to the accordion and the drumming as opposed to the (totally absent) rubboard and triangle tells you that they want to appeal to more than locals. Cover lovers, however, beware: “Empty Glass” is Gary Stewart’s, but “Lucille” isn’t Little Richard’s, and Dylan’s “On a Night like This” has lots of LeBouef’s own words.
