It’s always a wild ride whenever the sonically inclined mad scientist Quintron fires up his custom-made musical creations. On his latest outing, Too Thirsty 4 Love, the demented Mr. Q and his equally unforgettable assistant Miss Pussycat craft another fine fracas of paranoid dance grooves, manic organ spirals, and frenzied Drum Buddy freakouts.
The album’s title track (also its opening number) fuses the grandiose allure and dark atmospherics of
Station to Station-era Bowie to make for one of Quintron’s most accessible efforts to date. But soon, it’s off the deep end, as glitzy, retro dance beats, herky-jerky squalls, and layers of distortion fuel the ensuing chaos. Once the album reaches “Dirt Bag Fever,” there’s no escaping the sensory overload of this trip. And there’s no letting up from Mr. Q either, as he readily amps up the robotic drones, mechanical breakouts, and Tron-like detonations of tracks including “Model Ex-Citizen,” whose unhinged fervor is certain to spark a feverish dance party at Quintron’s own Spellcaster Lodge.
While Quintron’s riotous melee of avant-weirdness is rarely a sound option for the feebly minded,
Too Thirsty 4 Love’s mix of over-the-top mayhem and anxiety-riddled rave-ups ooze with just the right amount of pulp and decadence to spike his cult following.
