I Love, I Hustle, the sophomore album by hip-hop duo and 2013 OffBeat Best of the Beat award winners Jealous Monk, fully embodies the group’s work-hungry, play-hungry spirit with catchy verses, infectious instrumentals and overall New Orleans flair.

Comprised of DJ Jermaine Quiz and freestyle rapper Intelligence, Jealous Monk has concocted a six-track LP deeply indebted to multiple genres, including ’60s soul, pop and electronic dance music.

In working with long-time collaborator Austin Leigh Briggs of Curren$y fame, Jealous Monk’s varying deliveries complement the diversity of the tracks—dynamics that are particularly on display during the opener “Repeat” and the album’s seminal hit “Heatwave.”

Despite the youthful nature of some of the lyrics, the overall tone of I Love, I Hustle very much embodies the energy and passion these two artists have for their music and their city.
