If it wasn’t for a devastating fire that torched Jamie Bergeron’s house and claimed clothes, accordions, vehicles and the lives of pets, Bergeron would have released a new CD way before this. But as evidenced here, he’s resilient, fronting an equally enthusiastic dance band that’s more an honest synthesis of south Louisiana’s musical potpourri than specialists of any particular genre. Four of the 14 songs are arguably dancehall staples, and though they’re novel in nature, “RCA (Registered Coonass)” and “Cajun Rap Song” portray a Cajun perspective well, albeit a humorous one. But it’s the country, steel-heavy weeper “All of My Life” that’s dispels any notion that Bergeron can’t be taken seriously. Initially, the song finds a protagonist refusing to move on from a terminated love. The last verse, the haunting shocker, reveals why: “Spoke to her today / placed a rose upon the stone / where she now lays / so peacefully for the rest of my life.” A keeper.
