Dianne Montalbano Brant, Songs My Daddy Sang (Independent)

As an only child growing up in the Irish Channel, Dianne Brant was surrounded by love and music. Her father, the late Frank Montalbano, was a well-known, well-loved produce merchant who was always singing. On this collection of 17 songs, Brant has recorded some of her father’s favorites, such as “My Blue Heaven,” “Bye Bye Blackbird,” and “My Funny Valentine.”

Brant has a sweet, coloratura soprano voice with great range and depth. Brant has assembled an all-star ensemble of a dozen of the city’s best musicians, including longtime Al Hirt drummer Reed Vaughan and multitalented guitarist/vocalist Bobby Lonero. Brant and Lonero harmonize on a few fine duets and Lonero does a little improvising himself, with an amusing Louis Prima shtick on “Pennies From Heaven.”
