I’m not sure I believe in Andrew Duhon the songwriter, whose imagery, tropes and sentiments will feel familiar to anyone who has a passable collection of Americana singer/songwriters. But, I’m engaged by the good sense in the construction of his songs and I definitely believe in his voice. Trina Shoemaker’s production wisely puts his warm, gently soulful voice up front, so much so that much of the backing band is only noticeable after a few listens. When you hear it, someone is gently nudging the song forward, but everything serves Duhon’s voice and acoustic guitar. I look forward to the day when his songs reflect his age, though. He’s too young to be an old soul.
