Last night, our lack of memory of Will Farrell movies cost us the win at 45 Tchoup’s Monday night trivia, but I’m not holding it against him. In the spirit of the season, here’s his Christmas video with John C. Reilly as the two recreate the Bing Crosby Christmas special when David Bowie made a guest appearance.
In another attempt to walk in another’s holiday shoes, here’s a link to a downloadable version of “Christmas Time is Here” by Mayer Hawthorne. If there is a semi-modern song that has emerged as a new standard, it’s this classic from A Charlie Brown Christmas (which first aired in 1965 – not so modern). Hawthorne solved the problem of how to stay true to the classic while imprinting his own art on it by singing over the instrumental version by the Vince Guaraldi Trio that appears on the soundtrack album. For someone who’s made a career of mimicking classic R&B, the move shows more imagination than is immediately obvious.
