When the Saints season opens in the Dome September 9, it looks like the Minnesota Vikings will have Brett Favre at quarterback, just as almost everybody in the free world expected. Far be it from me to look out for Favre’s legacy, but would it have been so hard to say, “I’m in my 40s and I can’t handle weeks of training camp and a season of football?” He hasn’t participated in the first two weeks of training camp since he retired from Green Bay, and he’s just like many players who’ve have said in the year or two after retiring that they felt like they could still play, but they lost the passion to do the off-season work necessary to be ready for the season. He’s found ways around that work, and I’d have more respect for him if he dealt with his team honestly instead of going out a diva who has to be coaxed out of retirement every year.
