Got to work this morning and there was a film crew out, apparently shooting a scene for HBO’s series Tremé in, of all places, Mona’s Restaurant. My office overlooks the corner of Frenchmen and Decatur, and they’re shooting something inside, with a god-awfully bright light shining in my left eye. Alex tells me that Steve Earle is involved, playing someone’s uncle or something, and this morning the TP announced that the ubiquitous John Goodman will also be in the cast. Good for him; he can film in the city close to his home in Old Metairie, instead of heading to a location somewhere.
I can’t wait to see this show because I’ve been hearing that they’re finally going to get New Orleans right. I sure hope so: remember Dennis “Remy” Quaid in The Big Easy (the New Orleans cop with the fake-as-hell Cajun accent)? That movie was bone-chillingly annoying. The show is either going to be great or has been hyped to fabulosity even before anyone has seen it (note the fansite). Am hoping it’s the former. I will say I was bummed to find out that “DJ” Davis Rogan–who Steve Zahn’s character is reportedly focused on–won’t be in the final series. Poor Davis thought he had finally hit the big-time! We’ll all update you when we learn more.
