Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 35)
This month’s installment of Vintage Vinyl highlights five artists who each gave us a great tune or two about the rain. And given the weather as of late and a growing list of rainy-day favorites in my record collection, I should have enough for another entry or two as long as the creek don’t rise in 2024. Hope that you enjoy it and for your reading pleasure, selections are listed in chronological order of release.
Vintage vinyl treasures (Episode 34)
Four of the five entries of this month’s installment on vintage vinyl were acquired recently well off my beaten path. While on a Texas vacation that included Galveston, I made a side trip and found the first two gems in a funky vinyl shop in Baytown.
Vintage vinyl treasures (Episode 33)
As hinted at in last month’s installment, I have another round of five vintage albums released in 1973 marking 50 years since hitting the shelves at our favorite neighborhood record shops. Single album prices came in around three to four dollars that year as I recall. And as was the case with last month’s five, two of these records here made Rolling Stone’s 2003 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. You will find this month’s five listed in chronological order by release date.
Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 32)
This month’s installment offers five top-selling albums marking 50 years since their releases in 1973, a very good year for rock music. As I paged through my December 11, 2003, “Special Collectors Issue” copy of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, I noticed that two of these five records made the cut. Do you know or can you guess at a glance which two accomplished this impressive feat? I also noticed that I have several more vintage albums in my collection on Rolling Stone’s list so a follow-up related installment or two may be just the ticket.
Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 31)
This month’s installment covers five albums consisting of studio and live recordings on one release offering fans the best of both worlds. I hope that you enjoy this musical walk down memory lane as much as I did recently spinning some very serious vintage vinyl.
Vintage vinyl treasures (Episode 30)
I had this feeling of déjà vu as I picked out five albums for this month’s installment for Vintage Vinyl Treasures.
Vintage vinyl treasures (Episode 29)
The intense heat of late has many of us spending more time indoors. While catching up on paperwork, cleaning, and exercising for a change, I have some of my favorite albums spinning in the background. Locals of New Orleans and the surrounding area as well as folks educated in good music the world over should recognize the five artists of this month’s installment. I hope that you enjoy another walk down memory lane compliments of some fine vintage vinyl from Louisiana.
Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 28)
My search and rescue efforts for vintage vinyl for the months of May and June were thoroughly enjoyable. These five acquisitions, listed in order of discovery, reach way back in the day and are well off today’s proverbial beaten path. Each one is considered a definite keeper in the eyes of vinyl aficionados. I found the first two albums below in Old Arabi at “The Lighthouse” record store. The remaining three were a Father’s Day gift from my favorite daughter who took me out in the country for a “barnstormer” event advertised as the “10,000 Record Album Sale.”
Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 27)
This month’s installment of Vintage Vinyl includes an eclectic mix of soundtracks residing in my current record collection from five memorable movies. I had this soundtrack theme in the back of my mind for some time, but it was triggered and came to fruition by a recent acquisition of the first soundtrack in queue.
Vintage Vinyl Treasures (Episode 26)
It is that time of year in the Big Easy, no doubt about it. Given another stellar line-up of Jazz Fest performers too numerous to count from all over this round world, it just does not get any better than this. This month’s installment includes five artists, both timeless and young, that you should recognize and if your stars align with tumblers clicking into place, you might just catch them at this year’s Fest for a memory to last a lifetime.
