We had an upright piano in my house growing up, outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I took classical lessons from time I was nine until about 14. At 14, I discovered rock ’n’ roll and left my lessons and from that point forward have been self-taught. Once I started listening to rock and roll, the classical thing wasn’t so much hip to me—but that classical training is an amazing foundation for anything you want to do.
