I bought the Frankie Miller LP when it was released. Mine has a matchbook on the cover. Always loved this album. I think Miller does a great job on the Toussaint compositions. Very underrated. Also has portions of “High Life” come in between songs. Very similar to what Toussaint did with his Southern Nights album. Although recorded in Atlanta, I think this album would have been amazing if it was done at Sea-Saint. I understand this was remixed in later releases, so I don’t know which mix is on your copy. Thanks for the review.

You have a good eye. If I am not mistaken, the matchbox cover of Frankie Miller’s second album was the original cover for the U.S. release while the cover with his photo was used in other countries around the globe. I agree that it would be great had it been recorded at Sea-Saint, but Toussaint’s unique and positive influence is still undeniable. As you likely know, the horns were recorded at the Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana.—Joseph Bondi, columnist for Vintage Vinyl
