Irma Thomas: Time Is On Her Side

Walk Around Heaven, Irma Thomas' fine new gospel album, closes with a gorgeous ballad called "Where We'll Never Grow Old. " The song is about the promised land, but could just as well be describing Irma's relation to her stage at Jazz Fest. Jazz & Heritage Festival producer Quint Davis credits her inaugural Fest performance in 1975 with giving the young event some much-needed big name clout, and she continues to be a major attraction at the Fest, for both locals and out-of-towners....
