Masters of Louisiana Music: Harold “Duke” Dejan

In 1966, when the NAACP and the Zulu Carnival Club condemned the New Orleans second line tradition as demeaning to the African-American race, bandleader Harold “Duke” Dejan bucked the tide and continued parading with his Olympia Brass Band. The strategy paid off in 1973 when the Olympia became the first (and only) New Orleans brass band to appear in a James Bond movie.
