Deck The Halls with Flogging Molly

April 1, 2005 by: Lorraine Fetts Leave a comment

Flogging Molly’s sold-out show was one of the best live gigs I’ve ever been to, The seven-piece melting pot of traditional Irish music meets punk rock worked the crowd into a frenzy by delivering energy unique only to a band with so much talent. Molly was founded by lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Dave King in the late ’90s as a means for him to get back to his once-estranged Irish roots, after experimenting with edgy punk and joining Motorhead guitarist “Fast” Eddie Clark and UFO bassist Pete Way as Fastway’s lead vocalist in the ’80s, wherein he was often sonically mistaken for Robert Plant.

With Flogging Molly, King declares, “The first time we got together to play, there was an energy in the room that I’d never experienced in any other band I’d ever been in, and it wasn’t due to any single ingredient or individual. We started in a bar and just played and played and played, We’re a live band, We’ll always have that.”
