In December, OffBeat held its inaugural Best Louisiana Music Photography contest. From our submissions, we selected the top 15 shots and handed the voting over to you. The prize: The five photos that accumulated the most Facebook Likes by noon on Monday, December 16, 2013 would be featured in OffBeat’s January 2014 issue. As it turned out, we had enough room to include six photos in the magazine. Here are the results…
First Place Winner
Kristin Fouquet
Photo: Ben Perrine (Son of Matt Perrine and Debbie Davis)
Born: New Orleans
First camera: My dad gave it to me before a trip to Paris, when I was 14.
I chose the photograph of Ben because it represents the tradition of musical families and the future of New Orleans music.
Second Place Winner
Kate Gegenheimer
Photo: Drummer James Alsanders at the Spotted Cat on Frenchmen Street
Born: New Orleans
First camera: Disposable, age 10, developed her first film at K&B.
James Alsanders was so focused on the groove that he had both the people inside and the people outside the club feeling the beat. Whether they knew it or not, they were all actively participating in the rhythm.

Nunu Zomot
