Every photograph is a snapshot, an individual moment in time. Rarely can it capture the entirety of an experience. Thus, I am fascinated with the medium of collage — combining those individual moments into a single image that captures the totality of the experience. The photos used in this collage were taken at Voodoo in 2007, assembled and manipulated to convey the deliberate and spontaneous chaos, the beauty, the creativity and the craziness of the festival. These are “my boys from the ‘hood,” The New Orleans Bingo! Show, Noisician Coalition and the Morning 40 Federation. Once upon a time, we were all Quarter rats, doing the Decatur Street crawl, witnessing many a bleary-eyed sunrise after a night of doing no good, stumbling home (a.k.a. the walk of shame) through the Ninth Ward. We’ve grown up over the years, channeling the craziness into our individual forms of artistic expression. This is my tribute to their tribute to our lives.
