Today I’ll give BP a rest because I have and likely will continue to chew on them in the months ahead. Instead, let’s go to Arizona – the place Los Lobos won’t go. According to a recent press release, the band has cancelled its upcoming show at The Talking Stick Resort July 10 because of the call to boycott Arizona based on the passage of State Bill 1070.
“We support the boycott of Arizona,” the band said in a statement. “The new law will inevitably lead to unfair racial profiling and possible abuse of people who just happen to look Latino. As a result, in good conscience, we could not see ourselves performing in Arizona. We regret the inconvenience this may have caused the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community, Casino Arizona, Talking Stick Resort and our fans, but we feel strongly that it is the right thing to do.”
